Hi All, We're watching the film "Supersize Me" in English, about a guy who ate nothing but McDonalds, three square meals a day, for 30 days, as an experiment to see how sick, fat, etc., it would make him. It's a good film so far, though a bit ... erm ... disgusting? Lol. Any of you seen it? I'm enjoying it. Very unique.

I've heard a lot about this movie, but haven't seen it yet. It seems like a weird premise to me though. The guy is taking the extremely contraversial position that the food at McDonalds is actually not all that good for you. Now does this come as a shock to anyone? I mean, there's a reason why you don't see Olympic athletes as spokes people in McDonalds commercials. Don't get me wrong, I love eating at McDonalds once in a while, but I have no delusions about the fact that I'm not getting a nutricious meal.

there was a lady on oprah the other day who weighed over 500 pounds. i saw someone on jerry springer who weighed a lot as well. it took us through his day and told us all that he would eat each day and he seemed to enjoy the way his life was going.

Are you sure this movie isn't some stand on how fat people are just like all the rest of us and shouldn't be ridiculed? Cuz if thats the case, well, duh! I dont mean for it to sound like that, but, honestly, why is it that people being fat is seen as such a character flaw? This is one of the most horrible things society does, makes fat people look bad for being fat. Well, I wonder why they're fat in the first place. Maybe its cuz they have to eat for comfort to feel good!
I hope that movie turns out that the person somehow asserts themselves and is all like, "Look buddy, what I eat is my choice! Leave me the hell alone and respect my life choce!"

you have a very good point. it could be an eating disorder. i've heard of that. some people are so mad because they are ridiculed so much so they eat. the food is like a drug to them. I know someone like that and i feel really sad when i think about him. he is a very nice person.

Hmmm, interesting topic, why are fat people fat.
I mean, there are actually so many reasons, some have always gotten unhealthy food as kids and spent the time watching tv. I think it's the parents responsibility to encourage the kid to be active, have a sport and eat healthy. When I was little I was allowed one day a week where my parents would give me candy and it was fun, it made the candy so special, but I know if I had been allowed to eat as much as I wanted I would've eaten probably tons every day.
Later in life it's so easy to slip into the habit of eating fastfood, if you're working until 6pm and come home do you feel like making a salad or ordering pizza/chicken wings, I think most people would agree on the pizza.
It's incredibly easy to get fat and people eat for various reasons. I eat when I'm bored, that's where whole packs of ice cream and candy just disappear.
You always got to be conscious of what you're eating, allow yourself to binge only very occasionally and to work out. Working out also makes you feel much better. And being overweight is so risky. My friend is a bit overweight and she already has some symptoms of Type II diabetes, she's probably 50 pounds over her ideal weight and she's only 29. She's working very hard on her diet though and she might avoid it. But being in shape takes discipline and if you adapt it you feel so much better physically and mentally, just eat healthy, work out at least twice a week and only eat candy on certain days or special occasions, you'll enjoy the candy all the moe actually. :)
Being over weight is becoming the biggest health problem in the nation, no point in blaming the restaurants that make the food, I don't agree with that. We're responsible for what we eat, nobody forces us to eat anything, we are responsible for our children who don't know better and for our own bodies, we only have one so we need to treat it well, even if working out is sometimes soo boring and that brownie looks so tempting. And it's not as if we have to say no all the time,. :)
cheers
